Common Questions

FAQs — Man and Van Hanwell

Yes, Hanwell is one of the more accessible areas we serve in West London. Most residential streets have good parking availability and the road network around Hanwell is straightforward compared to inner London. The main access routes via the A4020 Uxbridge Road and the surrounding residential streets are generally clear outside rush hours. For restricted roads, Ealing Council needs only 3 working days' notice for a bay suspension — the shortest in London — and charges £39 per bay per day at 7 working days' notice or £50 at the 3-day minimum, with no admin fee. You apply as the occupier, since Ealing issues it against your address and vehicle registration. Most Hanwell streets need no suspension at all.

Yes, we cover all residential streets in Hanwell W7 including those near the Brent Valley Golf Course, Wharncliffe Viaduct and Elthorne Park. The residential areas surrounding the park are quiet and well-organised for parking — moves in this part of Hanwell are typically very straightforward.

Yes, Hanwell's central location between Ealing, Southall and Greenford makes cross-area moves very common for us. A move from Hanwell to Ealing Broadway typically takes 2-3 hours. We cover all these nearby areas at our standard rates with no extra charges for short-distance moves between them.

Yes, we regularly move from properties near Hanwell station. The residential streets around the station — including those on the Elthorne estate and the Victorian terraces on either side of the railway — are all well within our service area. Parking near the station is generally manageable outside peak commuting hours.

Yes, our 1 man + van service at £50/hr is perfect for small moves in Hanwell — whether that is a single piece of furniture, a studio flat or a small number of boxes. Hanwell's manageable road network means we can often complete small moves very efficiently, keeping your costs to the minimum 2-hour booking.

Hanwell W7 is inside the expanded ULEZ zone (since August 2023), but our van is fully ULEZ-compliant — no surcharge is passed on to you. Hanwell W7 is also well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Moves within Hanwell and to surrounding areas like Ealing, Southall, Greenford, Acton and Brentford will not incur any charge. If your move travels into the zone — Westminster, the West End, the City or Bloomsbury — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026, and it now runs at weekends too: 07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. Kensington and Chelsea are outside the zone despite feeling central. It is passed on at cost with no markup, and the vast majority of Hanwell moves involve no charge at all.

The Wharncliffe Viaduct carries the Great Western mainline over the Brent valley and divides Hanwell W7 in a way that can catch out unfamiliar drivers. Some road routes that look direct on a map require going significantly further around because of the viaduct and the river valley below it. Our drivers know the correct routes and always plan the most efficient access to your address before arriving — this local knowledge saves time and keeps your bill lower.

Yes — Hanwell W7 is increasingly popular with families relocating from Ealing, Chiswick, Acton and inner West London looking for more space at a lower price. The 1930s semis offer excellent square footage, there are well-regarded primary schools in the area, Hanwell station gives direct access to Paddington, and the Brent Valley Park provides great outdoor space. We carry out many of these inner-to-outer family moves and are well placed to help — we are available 7 days a week and can often accommodate your completion date at relatively short notice.

Yes — the Elthorne estate and the surrounding post-war housing around Boston Road are well within our Hanwell service area. Some of the blocks have lifts, others require stairwell carries — we ask about floor level and lift access when you book so we can send the right team. Parking on the estate is generally good and access for vans is straightforward.

London Moverz charges from £50/hr for 1 man + van and £65/hr for 2 men + van in Hanwell W7. Minimum booking is 2 hours. No hidden charges.

Yes — we cover Elthorne, Brent Valley, Norwood Green and all W7 postcodes, as well as all other London boroughs and long-distance UK moves.

Most local moves in Hanwell are completed in 2–4 hours. We operate 7 days a week, 7AM–9PM, and can often accommodate same-day or next-day bookings.

Yes. London Moverz carries £2 million public liability cover and £25,000 goods in transit insurance. Every move in Hanwell and across London is covered from the moment we start loading until the last item is placed at your new address. Certificate of Insurance documentation is available for buildings that require it — just tell us when you book.

You can book online, call us on 07897 383022, or WhatsApp us. We confirm availability within the hour.

We do both, with the same team. A man and van in Hanwell is the right choice for a studio, a single room, a few items of furniture or a part-load — one man and a van at £50/hr, or two men at £65/hr, minimum two hours. Full house removals Hanwell W7 is the same service scaled up: two men, a full pack-and-load, furniture dismantling and reassembly, and protection for floors and doorways. Most Edwardian houses with wide frontages and good off-street access need the two-man option once you are past a one-bedroom flat, simply because of stair carries and the size of the furniture. We do not subcontract either service — the people who quote your Hanwell removal are the people who turn up. If you are not sure which you need, send a photo or a room list and we will tell you honestly, including if the smaller option is enough. Parking suspensions in Hanwell go through Ealing Council, and we will tell you exactly what to apply for.

About Our Service

Hanwell Removals & Man and Van — Local Experts Since 2015

London Moverz has been serving Hanwell and the wider Ealing borough since 2015. Based in Chiswick W4, we reach Hanwell W7 via the A4020 Uxbridge Road or through Northfields — typically a 20 to 25 minute journey. Hanwell is one of the most pleasant areas we serve for removal work: accessible roads, generally good parking, a calm residential atmosphere and a community feel that makes move day run smoothly. Over nearly a decade we have built genuine familiarity with Hanwell's streets and housing stock.

Hanwell's Character and Property Types

Hanwell W7 sits between the more expensive streets of Ealing to the east and the more urban environment of Southall to the west — it occupies a comfortable middle ground that has made it increasingly popular with families priced out of Ealing looking for similar housing at better value. The dominant property type is the 1930s semi-detached house — solidly built, well-proportioned, with wider hallways and staircases than Victorian equivalents and often with a front driveway that gives our van direct access to the front door. These are genuinely some of the easiest moves we carry out and we enjoy working in them.

There is also a stock of Victorian terraces in the streets immediately around Hanwell station and along Church Road — narrower and tighter than the semis but very manageable with the right equipment and experienced team. The Elthorne estate and the areas around Boston Road have post-war housing that varies considerably in terms of access — some of the flat blocks have lifts, others require stairwell carries. We assess every property individually when you book.

Hanwell's Landmarks and Local Knowledge

Hanwell is home to several notable landmarks that help us navigate the area and advise customers on access. The Wharncliffe Viaduct — Brunel's remarkable railway bridge carrying the Great Western mainline over the Brent valley — divides the area and means some road routes require going further around than expected. The Brent Valley Golf Course and Elthorne Park create a green belt through the centre of Hanwell that limits through-routes in certain directions. We know which roads to use and which to avoid, and our routing knowledge keeps your move time — and your bill — as short as possible.

ULEZ & Congestion Charge — Hanwell Moves

Hanwell W7 falls within the expanded Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which now covers all London boroughs following the August 2023 expansion. Our van is fully ULEZ-compliant — there is no ULEZ surcharge passed on to you. Hanwell W7 is also well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Moves within Hanwell and to surrounding areas — Ealing, Southall, Greenford, Acton, Brentford — will not incur any charge. If your move requires travel all the way into the Congestion Charge zone — Westminster, the West End, the City, Bloomsbury or Elephant and Castle — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026, its first rise since 2020. It now applies at weekends as well (07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays), and it is billed per calendar day, so a job running past midnight counts twice. Worth knowing that Kensington, Chelsea and Notting Hill are not in the zone despite feeling central — the Western Extension covering them was scrapped in 2011. We pass it on at cost with no markup, and for the overwhelming majority of Hanwell moves neither charge is a factor at all.

Parking Suspensions in Hanwell

Hanwell falls under Ealing Council, which is the cheapest and most flexible borough in London for this. The minimum notice is just 3 working days' minimum notice, against 10 working days in Kensington and Chelsea, Hounslow, Richmond and Lambeth, and a minimum of five clear working days in Wandsworth. The cost is £39 per bay per day if you apply at least 7 working days ahead, or £50 at the 3-day minimum, with no separate admin or booking fee — which is where other boroughs quietly add up. The same single bay for one day costs £65 in Hounslow, £82 in Kensington and Chelsea, about £126 in Wandsworth and over £150 in Richmond and Lambeth once their admin fees are counted.

Three details from Ealing's terms worth knowing. A bay is 5 metres, so a long-wheelbase van usually needs two. The suspension applies 24 hours a day in resident bays rather than only during controlled hours, which protects an early start or a late finish. And cancellations need 2 working days' notice, with a £25 administration charge on any refund — and no refund at all if the bay was correctly signposted but someone parked in it anyway, so report that on 020 8825 6677 on the day rather than afterwards.

The application is made by you as the occupier, not by us. Ealing issues the suspension against the property address and the vehicle registration, so it has to come from the resident — send us the reg and we will make sure the correct van is named on it. In practice most Hanwell moves need nothing at all: the 1930s semis that make up much of W7 have driveways or wide kerb frontage, and on the residential streets there is almost always a legal loading point within a few metres of the door. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in. One thing not to do is put bins or cones out to hold a space — it is illegal, however normal it looks on the street.

Why Hanwell Is a Great Value Area to Move In

From a removal cost perspective, Hanwell is one of the most straightforward and cost-effective areas of West London to move in. The accessible roads, good parking, moderate distances from our Chiswick base and generally well-proportioned properties all combine to keep move times shorter than in many inner London areas — which on our hourly rate means your total bill is typically lower than for equivalent moves in Fulham, Hammersmith or Kensington. Hanwell residents get a lot of removal for their money.

The Elizabeth Line Effect on Hanwell

The single biggest change to Hanwell in the last decade is not on any of its streets — it is at the station. Hanwell is served by the Elizabeth line, which put Bond Street and Liverpool Street within a direct ride and turned W7 from a quiet, slightly overlooked corner of Ealing into somewhere people actively choose. We have seen it in our own bookings: a growing share of our Hanwell work is now people moving out of inner London rather than around West London, typically trading a one or two-bedroom flat in Shepherd's Bush, Hammersmith or Acton for a whole house here.

That shapes the job in a specific way. An inner-London flat to a Hanwell house is a move where the volume grows on arrival rather than in transit — the same furniture, but suddenly a garage, a loft and a shed to fill, and usually a couple of items that were never going to fit the old flat and are being collected on the way. If that is your move, tell us at booking and we will plan a single run with a collection built in rather than making two trips. It is almost always cheaper than it sounds.

Practically, Hanwell station itself is one of the few tight spots in W7. It is a listed Victorian station on a narrow stretch with limited stopping, and the streets immediately either side of the railway fill with commuter parking through the working day. For an address in that pocket we push for a start before 8am or after 9:30am; the difference is real. Away from the station the picture reverses entirely, which is the next section.

Why Hanwell Moves Come In Under Estimate

Hanwell is one of the easiest places in London to move, and it is worth explaining why rather than simply claiming it. Most of W7 is inter-war semi-detached and terraced housing on generous plots — the 1920s and 1930s expansion that filled the land between Ealing and Southall. That gives you a driveway or a wide kerb directly outside, a level or near-level threshold rather than a raised Victorian doorstep, and staircases built with proper half-landings instead of the tight top turn that defines the Victorian terraces in Earlsfield, Fulham or Tooting. A three-seater sofa that would need dismantling in SW18 usually walks straight out of a Hanwell semi.

The consequence is that our estimates hold here more reliably than almost anywhere we work, and the two-hour minimum genuinely covers a small job rather than being a floor you sail past. Two exceptions worth flagging. Loft conversions are common in Hanwell and are the one place in an otherwise straightforward house where a wardrobe can defeat you — mention it at booking if your move includes a loft room. And the Victorian terraces closer to the Uxbridge Road are a different proposition from the semis: narrower, often no off-street parking, and worth treating as an early start.

On routing, the Wharncliffe Viaduct and the Brent valley genuinely do divide the area, and a satnav will happily send you to the wrong side of both. Coming from our Chiswick base we normally approach W7 via the A4020 Uxbridge Road or up through Brentford and Boston Manor — 20 to 25 minutes outside peak. The Uxbridge Road itself is the pinch point, busiest from about 8am and again from 4pm, and we plan Hanwell loading to start before the first of those wherever the property allows.

For a full house rather than a van and a couple of hours, see house removals London, and packing services if you would rather not pack a whole home yourself. Where the sale and purchase dates do not line up — common on the family chains here — we can hold a load and storage in London covers longer gaps. Pianos are quoted separately on our piano movers page, and business moves along the Uxbridge Road are on our office removals page.
