Hanwell falls under Ealing Council, which is the cheapest and most flexible borough in London for this. The minimum notice is just 3 working days' minimum notice, against 10 working days in Kensington and Chelsea, Hounslow, Richmond and Lambeth, and a minimum of five clear working days in Wandsworth. Three details from Ealing's terms worth knowing. A bay is 5 metres, so a long-wheelbase van usually needs two. The suspension applies 24 hours a day in resident bays rather than only during controlled hours, which protects an early start or a late finish. And cancellations need 2 working days' notice, with a £25 administration charge on any refund — and no refund at all if the bay was correctly signposted but someone parked in it anyway, so report that on 020 8825 6677 on the day rather than afterwards.
The application is made by you as the occupier, not by us. Ealing issues the suspension against the property address and the vehicle registration, so it has to come from the resident — send us the reg and we will make sure the correct van is named on it. In practice most Hanwell moves need nothing at all: the 1930s semis that make up much of W7 have driveways or wide kerb frontage, and on the residential streets there is almost always a legal loading point within a few metres of the door. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in. One thing not to do is put bins or cones out to hold a space — it is illegal, however normal it looks on the street.

The single biggest change to Hanwell in the last decade is not on any of its streets — it is at the station. Hanwell is served by the Elizabeth line, which put Bond Street and Liverpool Street within a direct ride and turned W7 from a quiet, slightly overlooked corner of Ealing into somewhere people actively choose. We have seen it in our own bookings: a growing share of our Hanwell work is now people moving out of inner London rather than around West London, typically trading a one or two-bedroom flat in Shepherd's Bush, Hammersmith or Acton for a whole house here.
That shapes the job in a specific way. An inner-London flat to a Hanwell house is a move where the volume grows on arrival rather than in transit — the same furniture, but suddenly a garage, a loft and a shed to fill, and usually a couple of items that were never going to fit the old flat and are being collected on the way. If that is your move, tell us at booking and we will plan a single run with a collection built in rather than making two trips. It is almost always cheaper than it sounds.
Practically, Hanwell station itself is one of the few tight spots in W7. It is a listed Victorian station on a narrow stretch with limited stopping, and the streets immediately either side of the railway fill with commuter parking through the working day. For an address in that pocket we push for a start before 8am or after 9:30am; the difference is real. Away from the station the picture reverses entirely, which is the next section.
Hanwell is one of the easiest places in London to move, and it is worth explaining why rather than simply claiming it. Most of W7 is inter-war semi-detached and terraced housing on generous plots — the 1920s and 1930s expansion that filled the land between Ealing and Southall. That gives you a driveway or a wide kerb directly outside, a level or near-level threshold rather than a raised Victorian doorstep, and staircases built with proper half-landings instead of the tight top turn that defines the Victorian terraces in Earlsfield, Fulham or Tooting. A three-seater sofa that would need dismantling in SW18 usually walks straight out of a Hanwell semi.
The consequence is that our estimates hold here more reliably than almost anywhere we work, and the two-hour minimum genuinely covers a small job rather than being a floor you sail past. Two exceptions worth flagging. Loft conversions are common in Hanwell and are the one place in an otherwise straightforward house where a wardrobe can defeat you — mention it at booking if your move includes a loft room. And the Victorian terraces closer to the Uxbridge Road are a different proposition from the semis: narrower, often no off-street parking, and worth treating as an early start.
On routing, the Wharncliffe Viaduct and the Brent valley genuinely do divide the area, and a satnav will happily send you to the wrong side of both. Coming from our Chiswick base we normally approach W7 via the A4020 Uxbridge Road or up through Brentford and Boston Manor — 20 to 25 minutes outside peak. The Uxbridge Road itself is the pinch point, busiest from about 8am and again from 4pm, and we plan Hanwell loading to start before the first of those wherever the property allows.
