On cost, Wandsworth splits it into a bay charge and a non-refundable booking fee, and the booking fee is the larger part. A domestic bay suspension is £43.40 for the first day and £35.20 for each consecutive day after. The booking fee is £82.20 with 10 working days' notice, or £93.20 with 7 — so leaving it later costs you £11 more, not less. One bay for one day therefore comes to about £125.60 if you plan ahead. If your street has no bays outside the door, Wandsworth will consider a yellow line waiver instead at £65.10 per 5-metre space per day. Note a bay is 5 metres, so a long-wheelbase van generally needs two of them, and the number of bays you book for the first day has to stay the same for every consecutive day.
Changing or cancelling costs £63.90 in admin plus £13.60 for signage, so book the duration you actually need first time. The application is made by you as the occupier, since Wandsworth issues it against the address and vehicle registration — send us the reg and we will make sure the right van is named on it. That said, plenty of Earlsfield moves need nothing at all: on the residential streets running east off Garratt Lane there is usually a legal loading point within twenty metres of the door, particularly before 9am. It now applies at weekends as well (07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays), and it is billed per calendar day, so a job running past midnight counts twice. Chelsea and Kensington are not in the zone, despite how central they feel — the Western Extension covering them was scrapped in 2011, so a company adding a Congestion Charge to an Earlsfield-to-Chelsea move is overcharging you. We pass it on at cost with no markup, and the vast majority of Earlsfield moves involve none of it.
Almost every house in SW18 was built to the same late-Victorian pattern, which means the same obstacle appears in job after job: a hallway barely wider than a doorframe, then a staircase with a tight turn at the top rather than a half-landing. The measurement that decides your move is not the size of the bedroom — it is that turn.
