Common Questions

FAQs — Man and Van Earlsfield

The streets around Earlsfield station on Garratt Lane have parking restrictions during business hours. For moves very close to the station a Wandsworth suspension may be worth having — £43.40 for the first day plus a non-refundable booking fee of £82.20 at 10 working days' notice, with a minimum of five clear working days and the submission day not counting. For most residential streets running off Garratt Lane, parking is manageable without one, particularly before 9am.

Yes, the Victorian terraces on Magdalen Road, Fawe Park Road and the surrounding Earlsfield streets are some of the most common moves we carry out in this area. These properties typically have narrow hallways and steep staircases — we bring the right equipment and experienced team to handle these access challenges efficiently.

Yes, our Earlsfield service extends to the borders with Southfields SW19 and Wimbledon Park SW19. We regularly carry out moves between Earlsfield, Southfields and Wandsworth — all at standard rates with no extra charges for the short distances involved.

Yes, we accept same-day bookings in Earlsfield when availability allows. Earlsfield is close to our South West London base so we can often accommodate last-minute requests more easily than for areas further afield. Call or WhatsApp us on 07897 383022 to check immediate availability.

Garratt Lane is one of the main arterial routes through Earlsfield and can be very congested during rush hour. For moves involving properties directly on Garratt Lane, we schedule loading and unloading outside peak hours where possible — typically starting before 7:30am or after 10am for morning moves.

Earlsfield SW18 is well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Moves within Earlsfield and to nearby areas like Wandsworth, Tooting, Balham, Clapham and Putney will not incur any charge. If your move enters the zone — Westminster, the West End, the City, or Southwark and Elephant and Castle — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026, and it now runs 07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday and 12:00–18:00 at weekends and on bank holidays. Chelsea and Kensington are outside the zone despite feeling central. It is passed on at cost with no markup.

The key is preparation and the right team size. Most Earlsfield Victorian terraces have narrow hallways and steep stairs with a tight turn at the top landing — the main challenge point for large furniture. We always recommend the 2 men + van option for these properties, as two experienced movers working in tandem can navigate tight spaces far more safely and quickly than one. We also bring furniture sliders, shoulder straps and blankets as standard, and take the time to measure doorways and stair widths at the point of booking if you are concerned about a particular item.

Yes — while the Championships are in Wimbledon rather than Earlsfield, the surrounding South West London road network does get busier during the tournament fortnight in late June and early July. We factor this into route planning for moves during this period. Earlsfield itself is not significantly affected, but moves towards Wimbledon, Southfields or Putney may take slightly longer during peak tournament days. We always advise on this when you book.

Yes — moves between Earlsfield SW18 and the riverside developments along the Thames in Wandsworth are very common for us. The new apartment blocks at Wandsworth Riverside Quarter and Ram Quarter have specific move-in procedures including pre-booked loading bays and goods lift reservations. We are familiar with these buildings and can guide you through the process. The journey between Earlsfield and the riverside is short — typically under 10 minutes.

London Moverz charges from £50/hr for 1 man + van and £65/hr for 2 men + van in Earlsfield SW18. Minimum booking is 2 hours. No hidden charges.

Yes — we cover Wandsworth, Southfields, Garratt Lane and all SW18 postcodes, as well as all other London boroughs and long-distance UK moves.

Most local moves in Earlsfield are completed in 2–4 hours. We operate 7 days a week, 7AM–9PM, and can often accommodate same-day or next-day bookings.

Yes. London Moverz carries £2 million public liability cover and £25,000 goods in transit insurance. Every move in Earlsfield and across London is covered from the moment we start loading until the last item is placed at your new address. Certificate of Insurance documentation is available for buildings that require it — just tell us when you book.

You can book online, call us on 07897 383022, or WhatsApp us. We confirm availability within the hour.

We do both, with the same team. A man and van in Earlsfield is the right choice for a studio, a single room, a few items of furniture or a part-load — one man and a van at £50/hr, or two men at £65/hr, minimum two hours. Full house removals Earlsfield SW18 is the same service scaled up: two men, a full pack-and-load, furniture dismantling and reassembly, and protection for floors and doorways. Most the Victorian terraces along Garratt Lane and Magdalen Road need the two-man option once you are past a one-bedroom flat, simply because of stair carries and the size of the furniture. We do not subcontract either service — the people who quote your Earlsfield removal are the people who turn up. If you are not sure which you need, send a photo or a room list and we will tell you honestly, including if the smaller option is enough. Parking suspensions in Earlsfield go through Wandsworth Council, and we will tell you exactly what to apply for.

About Our Service

Earlsfield Removals & Man and Van — Local Experts Since 2015

London Moverz has been serving Earlsfield and South West London since 2015. Based in Chiswick W4, we cross the river regularly and reach most Earlsfield SW18 addresses within 25 to 30 minutes via Putney Bridge or Wandsworth Bridge. Over nearly a decade, we have built a strong reputation in Earlsfield — a neighbourhood that punches well above its size in terms of removal demand, thanks to its excellent schools, village feel and the constant churn of young professionals and growing families moving along the South Western Railway corridor.

Earlsfield's Streets and Property Types

Earlsfield SW18 is almost entirely Victorian in character — rows of terraced houses running east and west off Garratt Lane, the neighbourhood's main spine. These properties are attractive and well-sized, but they present consistent challenges for removals: narrow hallways, steep staircases with tight turns at the top, and front paths that barely fit a wardrobe. Our team knows these access challenges inside out and brings the right equipment every time — furniture sliders, shoulder straps, stair-climbing dollies and full blanket wrapping to protect walls and banisters.

Magdalen Road and the streets around it — Fawe Park Road, Tranmere Road, Schubert Road — are among the most moved-on streets in Earlsfield. We know them well. The roads to the south, around Replingham Road and Openview, have slightly wider properties and better access. Towards the Wandsworth border, along Garratt Lane itself, there are purpose-built flat developments that have loading bay access but require advance coordination. We handle all of these scenarios regularly.

Family Moves and the "Nappy Valley" Effect

Earlsfield sits at the outer edge of what estate agents call "Nappy Valley" — the pram-heavy strip properly centred on Northcote Road and Between the Commons in SW11, which Earlsfield borders rather than occupies. The practical difference matters if you are moving: Earlsfield offers the same school catchments for meaningfully less money, which is exactly why so many of the moves we do here are families arriving from Clapham or Battersea and trading a flat for a whole house. It is the strip — the strip running from Wandsworth Common through Earlsfield to Tooting Bec that has more young families per square mile than almost anywhere else in London. The reason is simple: excellent state schools (Beatrix Potter, Penwortham, Sellincourt) and outstanding independents (Honeywell, Broomwood Hall) all within walking distance of streets full of Victorian terraces just big enough for a growing family. What this means for removals: a huge proportion of moves we carry out in Earlsfield are flat-to-house upsizes as couples have their first child, or house-to-bigger-house moves as a second baby arrives. We bring extra blankets and corner protection as standard for these family moves — cots, changing tables, high chairs, bookcases full of toys, and Bugaboos all need handling with care, and we move them every week. If you're planning a family upsize within Earlsfield, mention it when you book and we will send a team experienced with these specific items and access challenges.

Garratt Lane, Parking and Access

Garratt Lane runs the full length of Earlsfield and is the area's busiest road — active bus route, heavy traffic throughout the day and parking enforcement in operation. For moves from properties on or immediately off Garratt Lane, we recommend starting loading before 8am to avoid the worst congestion and competition for space. The residential streets running east — towards Magdalen Road and Beechcroft Road — are generally CPZ-controlled with permit holder restrictions during business hours. Wandsworth Council handles suspensions for SW18, and the minimum is five clear working days. There is a detail in their terms that catches people out: the day you submit does not count toward the notice period at all, regardless of what time you send it, and weekends and bank holidays are not notification days either. Apply on a Thursday and your earliest realistic start is the Friday of the following week.

On cost, Wandsworth splits it into a bay charge and a non-refundable booking fee, and the booking fee is the larger part. A domestic bay suspension is £43.40 for the first day and £35.20 for each consecutive day after. The booking fee is £82.20 with 10 working days' notice, or £93.20 with 7 — so leaving it later costs you £11 more, not less. One bay for one day therefore comes to about £125.60 if you plan ahead. If your street has no bays outside the door, Wandsworth will consider a yellow line waiver instead at £65.10 per 5-metre space per day. Note a bay is 5 metres, so a long-wheelbase van generally needs two of them, and the number of bays you book for the first day has to stay the same for every consecutive day.

Changing or cancelling costs £63.90 in admin plus £13.60 for signage, so book the duration you actually need first time. The application is made by you as the occupier, since Wandsworth issues it against the address and vehicle registration — send us the reg and we will make sure the right van is named on it. That said, plenty of Earlsfield moves need nothing at all: on the residential streets running east off Garratt Lane there is usually a legal loading point within twenty metres of the door, particularly before 9am. We assess parking on every Earlsfield booking and tell you honestly which situation you are in rather than defaulting to "apply for one".

ULEZ & Congestion Charge for Earlsfield Moves

Earlsfield SW18 sits well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Worth being precise about where that zone is, since plenty of removal sites get it wrong: it crosses the river to take in Southwark and Elephant and Castle, with its southern edge along New Kent Road and Kennington Lane. Earlsfield is a long way south of it. Moves within Earlsfield and to surrounding areas — Wandsworth, Tooting, Balham, Clapham, Putney, Southfields — will not incur any Congestion Charge. Earlsfield is, however, inside the expanded ULEZ zone (since August 2023). All London Moverz vans are ULEZ-compliant, so you will never see a surprise ULEZ charge on your invoice. If your move does enter the Congestion Charge zone — Westminster, the West End, the City, Bloomsbury or Elephant and Castle — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026, its first rise since 2020. It now applies at weekends as well (07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays), and it is billed per calendar day, so a job running past midnight counts twice. Chelsea and Kensington are not in the zone, despite how central they feel — the Western Extension covering them was scrapped in 2011, so a company adding a Congestion Charge to an Earlsfield-to-Chelsea move is overcharging you. We pass it on at cost with no markup, and the vast majority of Earlsfield moves involve none of it.

The Earlsfield Staircase Problem

Almost every house in SW18 was built to the same late-Victorian pattern, which means the same obstacle appears in job after job: a hallway barely wider than a doorframe, then a staircase with a tight turn at the top rather than a half-landing. The measurement that decides your move is not the size of the bedroom — it is that turn. A three-seater sofa or a double wardrobe that went up when the previous owners moved in will not automatically come down, because fabric compresses, feet get replaced, and doors sometimes came off their hinges without anyone recording it.

What we do about it. We carry furniture sliders, shoulder straps, stair-climbing dollies and full blanket wrapping on every Earlsfield job as standard, and we will take internal doors off their hinges where that buys the inches. Where a piece genuinely will not make the turn, the honest answer is that it will not, and we would far rather establish that from photographs at the quote stage than on your landing with the clock running. Send us a picture of the staircase and the widest thing you own when you book — it takes a minute and it is the single most useful thing you can give us.

Front paths are the second Earlsfield constraint and the one people never think about. The terraces off Garratt Lane typically have a short tiled path, a low gate and two or three steps to a raised front door, and a wardrobe carried at an angle does not clear a gatepost. If your gate can be lifted off or your path is unusually narrow, mention it. And if anything you own was assembled inside the room rather than carried in whole — flat-pack wardrobes especially — tell us, because it will need to leave in pieces and we would rather arrive with the tools.

Family Moves, School Terms and Timing

Because so much of Earlsfield's turnover is families rather than renters, the demand pattern here is different from Clapham or Tooting. The peak is not the last Friday of the month — it is the summer, between the end of the school year in late July and the start of the new one in early September, when families move so children start the autumn term at the new school. That window books up weeks rather than days in advance, and the last fortnight of August is the busiest period we have in SW18 all year. If you are moving to be in catchment for September, book early; we are usually full for the final August weekends by the middle of July.

Day-to-day timing is dictated by Garratt Lane, which carries heavy traffic and an active bus route from early morning through to evening. For any property on or immediately off it we push for loading to start before 8am. The residential streets running east towards Magdalen Road and Beechcroft Road are considerably easier, and before 9am there is usually kerb space without any permit at all. Coming from Chiswick we normally approach via Wandsworth rather than cutting through Putney, which is why we can be at an SW18 door in 25 to 30 minutes.

A family upsize from a flat to a terrace is often bigger than an hourly booking suits — if yours is, our house removals page covers full home moves, and packing services covers labour and materials if you would rather not box up a whole house around small children. Where the sale and purchase dates do not line up, which is common on family chains, we can hold a load and storage in London covers the longer gaps. Pianos come up regularly in the larger Magdalen Road houses and are quoted separately on our piano movers page.
