Common Questions
Yes, the areas around Putney Bridge and Putney High Street have significant parking restrictions. Putney Bridge Road and the riverside roads are particularly restricted. For moves in these areas a parking suspension from Wandsworth Council is recommended — Wandsworth requires a minimum of five clear working days' notice , and the day you submit does not count toward that total. The cost is £43.40 for the first day plus a non-refundable booking fee of £82.20 at 10 working days' notice, or £93.20 at 7 — so applying later costs more, not less. Where there are no bays outside the door, a yellow line waiver is £65.10 per 5-metre space per day. For the residential streets further back from the river and High Street, parking is more manageable and a suspension is often not needed. You apply as the occupier, since Wandsworth issues it against your address and vehicle registration.
Yes, the riverside developments along Embankment and the surrounding areas are a regular part of our work in Putney. Many of these buildings have allocated residents loading bays and goods lifts. We always contact building management in advance to confirm access procedures, ensuring a smooth move with no unexpected delays.
Yes, we cover all of Putney including East Putney SW15, Putney Heath SW15, Roehampton SW15 and the areas surrounding the Common. All SW15 postcodes are served at our standard rates with no additional charges for different parts of Putney.
Yes, the large Victorian houses on the roads surrounding Putney Common and Upper Richmond Road are among the most interesting moves we carry out in the area. These properties often contain large pieces of furniture that require a full 2 men + van team. We always assess the scope of the move when you book to ensure we bring the right size team.
The Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race causes road closures along the Putney riverside on race day. If your move falls on Boat Race day, we plan alternative access routes well in advance and may start earlier than usual to get ahead of road closures. We monitor the exact closure timings and communicate clearly with you on the day.
Putney SW15 is inside the expanded ULEZ zone (since August 2023), but our van is fully ULEZ-compliant — no ULEZ surcharge is passed on to you. Putney is well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Moves within Putney and to surrounding areas like Wandsworth, Earlsfield, Barnes and Richmond will not incur any charge. If your move enters the zone — Westminster, the West End, the City, or Southwark and Elephant and Castle — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026, and it now runs at weekends too: 07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. Chelsea, Kensington and Fulham are outside the zone despite feeling central. It is passed on at cost with no markup, and the vast majority of Putney moves involve no charge at all.
The streets immediately around East Putney station — Festing Road, Genoa Avenue and Lacy Road — are among the most competitive for parking at month-end, when multiple tenancies change over simultaneously. Early morning starts (before 8am) make a significant difference here. Putney Bridge Road and Lower Richmond Road near the river have the most restrictive parking, and a Wandsworth suspension is usually worth having there — a minimum of five clear working days' notice, £43.40 for the first day plus an £82.20 booking fee at 10 working days' notice. We assess every street individually when you book and advise on the best strategy for your specific address.
Yes — the riverside apartment developments along Embankment and the surrounding Putney riverside are a regular part of our work. These buildings typically have allocated loading bays and goods lifts, but access procedures must be confirmed with building management in advance. We handle all of this coordination as standard. Please give us the building name when you book so we can confirm requirements in good time.
Yes — Roehampton SW15, on the western edge of the borough bordering Richmond Park, is fully within our service area. The Roehampton Estate and the surrounding residential streets are all covered at our standard rates. Roehampton is further from our Chiswick base than central Putney, but still within our standard 30-minute response zone. Access in most of Roehampton is very good — wide roads, good parking and generally straightforward property types.
London Moverz charges from £50/hr for 1 man + van and £65/hr for 2 men + van in Putney SW15. Minimum booking is 2 hours. No hidden charges.

We do both, with the same team. A man and van in Putney is the right choice for a studio, a single room, a few items of furniture or a part-load — one man and a van at £50/hr, or two men at £65/hr, minimum two hours. Full house removals Putney SW15 is the same service scaled up: two men, a full pack-and-load, furniture dismantling and reassembly, and protection for floors and doorways. Most riverside flats, Victorian terraces and the Heath-side family houses need the two-man option once you are past a one-bedroom flat, simply because of stair carries and the size of the furniture. We do not subcontract either service — the people who quote your Putney removal are the people who turn up. If you are not sure which you need, send a photo or a room list and we will tell you honestly, including if the smaller option is enough. Parking suspensions in Putney go through Wandsworth Council, and we will tell you exactly what to apply for.

About Our Service
London Moverz has been serving Putney and South West London since 2015. Based in Chiswick W4, we reach Putney SW15 via Chiswick Bridge and the Upper Richmond Road — typically a 20 to 25 minute journey depending on traffic. Over nearly a decade we have carried out hundreds of moves across Putney: from the grand Victorian detached houses around Putney Heath and the Common, to the riverside apartments along Embankment, to the busy streets of terraced Victorian housing between East Putney station and the High Street. Putney is one of our most active areas and we know it well.
Putney SW15 divides naturally into several distinct zones, each with its own character and moving challenges. The streets around Putney Heath and Common — Wildcroft Road, Putney Park Lane, Disraeli Road and the roads backing onto the open space — are home to some of South West London's grandest detached and semi-detached Victorian properties. These are substantial family moves requiring the 2 men + van service and careful handling of large furniture across multiple floors. The wide roads and generally good parking in this part of SW15 make access more manageable than the river-facing streets.
The area between East Putney station and the High Street — the compact grid of Victorian terraces on Festing Road, Genoa Avenue, Lacy Road and surrounding streets — is one of Putney's most active rental markets. These are the typical inner Putney flat-share and first-buyer properties: narrow hallways, steep stairs, end-of-month move-outs with intense parking competition. We always recommend early morning starts for moves from these streets. Towards the river, the character changes to the new-build riverside apartments and the older mansion blocks along Embankment — higher-value, more complex moves that require advance building management coordination.
The Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race takes place on the Thames between Putney and Mortlake, typically on a Saturday in late March or early April. Road closures along the Putney riverside begin several hours before the race and affect Lower Richmond Road, Embankment, Putney Bridge Road and the surrounding streets. If your move falls on Boat Race day — or the days immediately around it, when crowds and road management build up — we plan alternative access routes in advance and always communicate clearly about start times. We flag Boat Race weekend proactively for any SW15 booking in the relevant period. The simplest advice: if you can choose your move date, avoid the Boat Race Saturday.
Most of Putney SW15 operates within Wandsworth Council's controlled parking zones. The areas around Putney Bridge, the High Street and East Putney station have the tightest restrictions, and a formal suspension is often worth having for jobs there. Wandsworth Council requires a minimum of five clear working days' notice for parking bay suspensions. There is a detail in their terms that catches people out: the day you submit does not count toward the notice period at all, regardless of what time you send it, and weekends and bank holidays are not notification days either. Apply on a Thursday and your earliest realistic start is the Friday of the following week.
On cost, Wandsworth splits it into a bay charge and a non-refundable booking fee, and the booking fee is the larger part. A domestic bay suspension is £43.40 for the first day and £35.20 for each consecutive day after. The booking fee is £82.20 with 10 working days' notice, or £93.20 with 7 — so leaving it later costs you £11 more, not less. One bay for one day therefore comes to about £125.60 if you plan ahead. A bay is 5 metres, so a long-wheelbase van generally needs two, and the number you book for the first day has to stay the same for every consecutive day. If your street has no bays outside the door, Wandsworth will consider a yellow line waiver instead at £65.10 per 5-metre space per day. Changing or cancelling costs £63.90 in admin plus £13.60 for signage, so book the duration you actually need first time.
The quieter residential streets around Putney Heath have more accessible parking and often need no suspension at all. Where one is worth having, the application is made by you as the occupier rather than by us — Wandsworth issues it against the property address and the vehicle registration, so it has to come from the resident. Send us the registration when you book and we will make sure the correct van is named on it. We carry out a full parking assessment on every Putney booking and tell you honestly whether you need one.
Putney SW15 falls within the expanded Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which has covered all London boroughs since August 2023. Our van is fully ULEZ-compliant — there is no ULEZ surcharge passed on to you. Putney is well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Moves within Putney and to surrounding areas — Wandsworth, Earlsfield, Barnes, Richmond, Fulham — will not incur any congestion charge. If your move does enter the Congestion Charge zone — Westminster, the West End, the City, Bloomsbury or Elephant and Castle — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026, its first rise since 2020. It now applies at weekends as well (07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays), and is billed per calendar day, so a job running past midnight counts twice. Worth being precise about the zone: it crosses the river to take in Southwark and Elephant and Castle, but Chelsea, Kensington and Fulham are all outside it — the Western Extension covering them was scrapped in 2011 — so a Putney to Chelsea move carries no charge. We pass it on at cost with no markup, and the overwhelming majority of Putney moves are entirely charge-free.
Something changed for Putney in July 2026 that no removals site has caught up with. Hammersmith Bridge has been closed to motor vehicles since April 2019, and on 6 July 2026 Hammersmith and Fulham Council formally accepted that reopening it to traffic is not financially achievable — a full restoration was costed at around £300 million, and the council is instead pursuing a £128 million programme to keep it open to pedestrians, cyclists and river traffic only. Wandsworth and Richmond both objected, but for planning a move the closure is now permanent rather than temporary.
Putney Bridge is one of the crossings absorbing that displaced traffic, along with Chiswick and Kew, and it shows. The approach from the south backs up through the afternoon, and the junction at the northern end — already awkward — now carries traffic that would once have gone via Hammersmith. For a Putney move that means two things. Anything crossing to Fulham, Hammersmith or Chelsea should be timed to cross early rather than mid-afternoon; and on a two-way job we plan the loading order so we make one crossing rather than two. Details of the closure are on our Hammersmith page.
Alongside the Boat Race, which the page covers above, there is a busier and less obvious rowing calendar to plan around. The Head of the River races run through the spring and Putney Embankment fills with trailers, blades and club traffic on those mornings — nothing like Boat Race day, but enough to make the Embankment and Lower Richmond Road an unpleasant place to park a Luton. If your address is on the Embankment or the roads immediately behind it, we check the rowing calendar as well as the Boat Race date before confirming.
SW15 divides cleanly, and which part you are in predicts the job better than the number of bedrooms. The riverside mansion blocks along the Embankment and Lower Richmond Road behave like central London buildings: a porter, a service lift booked into a named slot, and a managing agent who wants a Certificate of Insurance naming the building before the crew gets past reception. We send COI documentation as standard rather than on request — give us the agent's details about a week ahead and Silvester handles it. Ask for the earliest lift slot the building offers, because a mid-morning slot in a block with one goods lift means queueing behind deliveries.
The Victorian and Edwardian terraces in the streets between the High Street and the Heath — the roads off Upper Richmond Road, Festing Road, Genoa Avenue, Lacy Road — are the standard South West London job: a short front path, steps to a raised door, a hallway that turns immediately and a staircase with a turn at the top rather than a half-landing. The constraint is the turn, not the flight. If your sofa was assembled in the room rather than carried in whole, tell us at booking and we will bring the tools rather than discover it on the landing.
The Heath-side houses towards Putney Heath and Roehampton are the easiest properties in SW15 — wider frontages, frequent driveways, better access — but they are also the largest, so these are full-day jobs rather than hourly ones. Pianos come up regularly in these houses and are quoted separately on our piano movers page. For a whole-home move see house removals London, and packing services if you would rather not pack a family house yourself. Where completion dates do not line up we can hold a load and storage in London covers longer gaps. Business moves along the High Street and Upper Richmond Road are on our office removals page.
Putney is a competitive removal market with high demand, particularly at month-end and weekends. Since 2015 we have earned our reputation in SW15 through punctuality, care and honest pricing — the same owner-operated team on every job, fully equipped and fully insured. Whether you need a full house removal, a man and van for a flat move, or an office relocation, we cover all SW15 postcodes and handle everything from single-room flat moves to full family house removals.
We regularly serve all surrounding areas including Wandsworth SW18, Earlsfield SW18, Barnes SW13, Richmond TW9 and Fulham SW6.
