Local Experts Since 2015
East Sheen is one of South West London's most desirable residential areas — a quiet, leafy SW14 village bordered to the north by the Thames at Mortlake, to the south and east by Richmond Park, to the west by Richmond and to the north-east by Barnes. It is characterised by large Edwardian and Victorian houses, mature tree-lined streets and a long-established community of families who often move within the area rather than out of it.
That local knowledge saves time — and on an hourly rate, time is money.
The majority of East Sheen's housing is Edwardian semi-detached and detached — particularly the substantial properties along Sheen Lane, Christ Church Road, Burlington Road and the streets between Upper Richmond Road West and Richmond Park.
East Sheen is within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, and the residential streets are covered by Controlled Parking Zones managed by Richmond Council.
East Sheen SW14 sits inside the expanded ULEZ zone but well outside the Congestion Charge zone. All our vans are ULEZ-compliant — no surprise charges.

Common Questions
Yes — we cover East Sheen SW14 fully, including all streets off Sheen Lane, Upper Richmond Road West, Mortlake Road and the residential streets between East Sheen and Richmond Park. We also cover the neighbouring areas of Mortlake, Barnes, Richmond and Kew. East Sheen is one of our most regular coverage areas in South West London.
Yes — East Sheen has a high concentration of large Edwardian semi-detached and detached houses, particularly along Sheen Lane, Palewell Park and the streets between Upper Richmond Road West and Richmond Park. These properties often have original features — tiled hallways, wide wooden staircases, original sash windows — and multiple floors of furniture. We bring floor protection for every job and use full furniture wrapping on all items.
Our rates are £50/hr for 1 man and van and £65/hr for 2 men and van, with a minimum charge of 2 hours. East Sheen SW14 is outside the London Congestion Charge zone, so local moves within East Sheen and to nearby areas such as Barnes, Richmond, Kew, Mortlake and Chiswick incur no congestion charge. Moves into the Congestion Charge zone may incur the £18 daily charge — that is the rate from 2 January 2026 — passed on at cost with no markup. Note the zone now operates at weekends too, 12:00–18:00, as well as 07:00–18:00 on weekdays.
Yes — we regularly move from the streets adjacent to Richmond Park, including Palewell Park, Fife Road, Temple Sheen Road and the roads off Sheen Gate. These streets have residential parking zones and we always check the specific CPZ operating hours for your address before move day. The proximity to Richmond Park can affect traffic at peak times and we factor this into our arrival time planning.
Yes — moves between East Sheen and neighbouring Richmond TW9/TW10, Barnes SW13, Kew TW9 and Mortlake SW14 are among our most frequent bookings in this part of South West London. The short distances involved mean most cross-area moves complete in 2–3 hours, keeping costs very low. We know all the local routes well and avoid peak-time congestion on the A316 and Upper Richmond Road.
Yes — piano moves are a regular part of our work in East Sheen, particularly from the larger Edwardian houses. Upright and baby grand pianos require specialist equipment, experienced movers and careful planning around staircase angles. We carry piano boards, straps and trolleys as standard. Please mention your piano when booking so we can send the right team and equipment for your specific property.
East Sheen falls within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, which operates Controlled Parking Zones across most residential streets. The main CPZ in East Sheen typically operates Monday to Friday. For moves on or near the Upper Richmond Road West or Sheen Lane, parking restrictions can make stopping a large van difficult without advance arrangements. We advise on the specific restrictions for your address. If a suspension is needed, Richmond requires at least 10 working days' notice and charges a £150.10 administration fee plus a per-day bay charge — so it is worth checking early whether your address needs one at all. A dispensation, which needs seven working days, is often the cheaper route where you do not need a specific bay reserved.
Typically 15 to 20 minutes via Chiswick Bridge or the South Circular, which makes SW14 one of the areas we can cover at short notice most reliably. Because we charge from arrival rather than from departure, that proximity is money saved rather than just convenience.
No. East Sheen SW14 sits well outside the Congestion Charge zone, whose western boundary runs along Park Lane and Edgware Road. Moves within East Sheen and to neighbouring Richmond, Barnes, Mortlake and Kew involve no charge at all. If your move does cross into central London, the £18 daily charge is passed on at cost with no markup — and note it now applies at weekends and on bank holidays between 12pm and 6pm, not just on weekdays.
London Moverz carries £2 million public liability cover and £25,000 goods in transit insurance, covering your belongings from the start of loading to final placement. Where a building requires a Certificate of Insurance before permitting a removal firm on site, tell us which building at the point of booking and we will supply it in advance.
Often, yes. SW14 is close enough to our base that we can usually accommodate last-minute work when the diary allows. Call or WhatsApp 07897 383022 rather than using the form for same-day requests — we will tell you straight away what is possible instead of leaving you waiting for a reply.
The Sheen Lane level crossing at Mortlake station is the one local factor worth planning around — barriers drop frequently during peak service and can hold traffic for several minutes at a time. For moves that cross it, we schedule loading before 8am or after 10am where possible. It is a minor thing, but on an hourly rate minor things add up.
Yes, and it is a common job here. These flats typically have a narrow street door, a steep straight staircase and no lift, with loading restrictions on the main road itself. We bring shoulder straps and sliders as standard and usually load from a side street rather than the main road. Two movers is the sensible choice for these properties — a single mover on a steep straight stair with a sofa is slower and riskier.
Call or WhatsApp 07897 383022, or use the booking form. We confirm availability within the hour, 7 days a week from 7am to 9pm. Give us both addresses, the floor and access at each end, a rough volume and your preferred date and we can usually quote immediately.
We do both, with the same team. A man and van in East Sheen is the right choice for a studio, a single room, a few items of furniture or a part-load — one man and a van at £50/hr, or two men at £65/hr, minimum two hours. Full house removals East Sheen SW14 is the same service scaled up: two men, a full pack-and-load, furniture dismantling and reassembly, and protection for floors and doorways. Most 1930s semis and the family houses near Sheen Common need the two-man option once you are past a one-bedroom flat, simply because of stair carries and the size of the furniture. We do not subcontract either service — the people who quote your East Sheen removal are the people who turn up. If you are not sure which you need, send a photo or a room list and we will tell you honestly, including if the smaller option is enough. Parking suspensions in East Sheen go through Richmond Council, and we will tell you exactly what to apply for.
East Sheen is well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Moves within East Sheen and to surrounding areas like Richmond, Barnes and Kew will not incur any charge. If your move travels into central London (Monday to Friday, 7am–6pm), the £18 daily charge is passed on at cost with no markup. We always confirm this at booking — most East Sheen moves involve no charge at all.
For weekend moves in East Sheen, we recommend booking at least one week in advance as demand is high — particularly at month end when tenancy agreements change over. For weekday moves, 2-3 days notice is usually sufficient. Same-day bookings are accepted when availability allows.
Yes, we operate from 7AM to 9PM, 7 days a week. Early morning starts are popular in East Sheen for customers who want to beat traffic on the Upper Richmond Road West. Evening slots are also available for office moves that need to happen outside business hours. Just let us know your preferred time when booking.
Most local moves in East Sheen are completed in 2–4 hours. We operate 7 days a week, 7AM–9PM, and can often accommodate same-day or next-day bookings.
About Our Service
East Sheen is one of South West London's most desirable residential areas — a quiet, leafy SW14 village bordered to the north by the Thames at Mortlake, to the south and east by Richmond Park, to the west by Richmond and to the north-east by Barnes. It is characterised by large Edwardian and Victorian houses, excellent schools and a strong community identity centred around Sheen Lane's independent shops and cafés. London Moverz has been carrying out removals in East Sheen since 2015, and the area's combination of substantial family homes, precious contents and strict parking requirements is exactly the kind of work we do best.
The majority of East Sheen's housing is Edwardian semi-detached and detached — particularly the substantial properties along Sheen Lane, Christ Church Road, Burlington Road and the streets between Upper Richmond Road West and Richmond Park. These houses typically have three to five bedrooms over multiple floors, original tiled hallways that must be protected, steep wooden staircases and generous room dimensions that nonetheless challenge the removal of large wardrobes, sofas and beds. We assess the specific access and staircase configuration at every property before move day and bring the right equipment and team size for the job.
The area immediately around Palewell Park — including Palewell Park itself, Fife Road and Temple Sheen Road — contains some of the largest properties in East Sheen, with several houses in excess of 3,000 square feet. These are significant removal operations requiring careful planning, multiple van loads in some cases, and experienced movers who know how to manage large volumes of furniture efficiently. For properties of this size, we always recommend our 2 men + van service and provide a realistic time estimate based on the volume of contents involved.
East Sheen also has a growing number of purpose-built apartment buildings, particularly around the Sheen Lane and Upper Richmond Road West corridor, and some converted mansion flats in the larger Edwardian houses. For apartments with lifts, we coordinate lift booking in advance with the building manager. For first and second-floor flats without lifts, we use trolleys and the appropriate team size for each situation.
East Sheen is within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, and the residential streets are covered by Controlled Parking Zones managed by Richmond Council. The primary CPZ in East Sheen operates Monday to Friday during peak hours, but some streets have extended hours or Saturday operation — we check the specific zone for your street before every booking. For moves on or adjacent to Upper Richmond Road West, which has double yellow lines along its length, or for properties immediately on Sheen Lane, parking suspensions through Richmond Council should be arranged in advance. Richmond requires at least 10 working days' notice before you apply — not five or seven — and it is worth planning around because Richmond is also the most expensive borough we work in for this. Every suspension carries a standard administration fee of £150.10 on top of a per-day bay charge that varies with the CPZ. For comparison, the same single bay for one day costs around £39 in Ealing, £65 in Hounslow, £82 in Kensington and Chelsea and roughly £126 in Wandsworth. If you have moved elsewhere in London and found the permit a formality, Richmond will not feel that way.
Four things from Richmond's rules that change how we plan a Sheen move. A bay is roughly five metres, so a long-wheelbase van generally needs two. A full set of adjacent bays can only be suspended for a whole day, not part of one — there is no half-day option here as there is in some boroughs. A suspension is enforceable at any time, even outside the CPZ's controlled hours, which is genuinely useful because it protects a 7am start or a late finish rather than only the controlled window. And disabled, doctor, ambulance and car club bays cannot be suspended at all, so if those are what sit outside your door the answer is a different plan, not a different application.
Given the £150.10 floor, the honest advice for most East Sheen addresses is to check whether you need one at all. If your property has a driveway — and a good number on Temple Sheen Road, Palewell Park and the roads towards Sheen Gate do — you almost certainly do not. Where there are no bays outside the door but you do not need a specific space reserved, Richmond's dispensation is the cheaper instrument: it permits a named vehicle to park in a bay or on a yellow line during restricted hours without a suspension notice going up, and it needs seven working days' notice. Check the current dispensation fee on the council's site, as it sits well below the suspension admin fee. The application is made by you as the occupier either way, since Richmond issues it against the address and the vehicle registration — send us the reg and we will make sure the right van is named.
East Sheen SW14 sits well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Worth being precise about where that zone is, because plenty of removal sites get it wrong: it crosses the river to take in Southwark and Elephant and Castle, with its southern edge running along New Kent Road and Kennington Lane. East Sheen is a long way outside it. Moves within East Sheen or to the surrounding areas — Richmond, Kew, Mortlake, Barnes, Putney — will not incur any Congestion Charge. East Sheen is, however, inside the expanded ULEZ zone (since August 2023). All London Moverz vans are ULEZ-compliant, so you will never see a surprise ULEZ charge on your invoice. If your move does enter the Congestion Charge zone — Westminster, the West End, the City, Bloomsbury or Elephant and Castle — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026, its first rise since 2020. It now applies at weekends as well (07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays), and it is billed per calendar day, so a job running past midnight counts twice. Chelsea and Kensington are not in the zone despite feeling central — the Western Extension covering them was scrapped in 2011 — so a company adding a Congestion Charge to an East Sheen-to-Chelsea move is overcharging you. We pass it on at cost with no markup, and the vast majority of East Sheen moves involve none of it.
East Sheen is defined by the Park in a way that shows up on move day. Sheen Gate is the closest entrance and the roads feeding it — Sheen Lane, Temple Sheen Road, Fife Road and Palewell Park — carry park traffic on top of residential traffic, and it peaks at weekends and through summer evenings rather than at the usual commuter hours. A Saturday move on a fine day near Sheen Gate is materially slower than the same job on a wet Tuesday. Richmond Park's gates also close at dusk and the vehicle gates shut overnight, so a route that assumes you can cut through the Park is a route that fails after dark; we plan around the outside as a matter of course.
The deer culls in November and February close parts of the Park to vehicles and pedestrians in the early mornings and late afternoons, which occasionally pushes traffic onto Upper Richmond Road West at exactly the wrong moment. It is a small thing, but it is the sort of small thing that turns a three-hour job into a four-hour one on an hourly rate, and it is why we ask for your address before quoting a duration rather than after.
East Sheen's stock is kinder to removals than most of South West London. The Edwardian and inter-war houses along Temple Sheen Road, Palewell Park, Christchurch Road and the roads towards the Park are wide-fronted, with generous hallways and staircases built with proper half-landings rather than the tight top turn that defines Earlsfield and Tooting. Many have driveways or crossovers, which is the single biggest cost saver available: if you can park on your own property, you avoid Richmond's £150.10 administration fee entirely. When you enquire, the first thing worth telling us is whether you have off-street parking.
The complications here are different. Raised front doors with three or four steps and a tiled path are common, and they add handling time to every item. The flats above the shops along Sheen Lane and Upper Richmond Road West are the opposite of the houses — shared entrances, narrow communal stairs, no lift, and deliveries to the shops below tying up the kerb through the middle of the day, so those are early-start jobs by default. And the mansion blocks towards Mortlake need lift booking and often a Certificate of Insurance naming the building; give us the managing agent's details a week ahead and Silvester handles that correspondence.
Pianos come up more often in SW14 than almost anywhere else we cover — the larger family houses near the Park have them, and a good number are uprights that were delivered before the current owners arrived. A piano is never part of an ordinary hourly booking: it needs specific equipment, a plan for the staircase angle and at least two experienced movers, so it is quoted separately on our piano movers London page. Mention it when you enquire rather than on the day.
For a whole-house move rather than a van and a few hours, see house removals London; if you would rather not box up a family home yourself, packing services covers labour and materials. Where completion dates do not line up — common on the Sheen family chains — we can hold a load and storage in London covers longer gaps. Business moves along Upper Richmond Road West are on our office removals page.
East Sheen's position at the junction of four highly sought-after areas means we frequently carry out cross-area moves for East Sheen residents. Moves to Richmond TW9 and Kew TW9 to the west are among our most common, followed by moves to Barnes SW13 to the north and Putney SW15 to the north-east. The short distances between East Sheen and these neighbouring areas mean most local moves complete in 2–3 hours at a very competitive total cost. We also regularly move people from East Sheen into Chiswick W4, where London Moverz is based — a route we know better than any other.
