Common Questions

FAQs — Man and Van Clapham

Yes, we regularly move from the streets surrounding Clapham Common station. These streets sit inside Lambeth CPZs and the operating hours vary road to road — we check the time plate for your address rather than assuming. If you want a bay reserved, Lambeth needs 10+ working days' notice for the standard tier; a half-day suspension covering midnight to midday costs £34.57 plus the £98.83 admin fee, which suits a morning move.

Yes, our Clapham service covers all of SW4 including the areas near Clapham Junction, the border with Battersea SW11, and the Abbeville Village area. Clapham North, Clapham Common and Clapham South — all three Underground station areas — are within our standard Clapham service.

Clapham High Street itself has very limited stopping opportunities during controlled hours. Most residential moves in Clapham are on the side streets, where there is usually a legal loading point close enough that no permit is needed at all. For a move fronting the High Street, a Lambeth suspension is worth applying for — £57.55 per space per day, or £34.57 for a half day covering midnight to midday, plus a £98.83 admin fee, with 10+ working days' notice for the standard tier. You apply as the occupier since Lambeth issues it against your address, and we plan the load around whatever you get.

Yes, we start from 7AM seven days a week. Early morning bookings are popular in Clapham, particularly for moves on the last day of the month when multiple tenancies change over simultaneously and competition for parking is high. Booking early in the morning often means less traffic and faster completion.

The Victorian terraced houses that make up much of Clapham's housing stock often have narrow hallways, steep stairs and tight corners. Our team is trained specifically in furniture manoeuvring through these spaces — we use specialist straps, blankets and corner protectors to get large items through safely without damage to the property.

Clapham SW4 is outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Moves within Clapham and to nearby areas like Battersea, Wandsworth, Tooting and Balham will not incur any charge. If your move takes you into the zone — Westminster, the West End, the City, or Southwark and Elephant and Castle — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026. Note Chelsea and Kensington are outside it, despite feeling central. Hours are 07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday and 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. It is passed on at cost with no markup, and the vast majority of Clapham moves involve no charge at all.

Early morning starts — between 7am and 8am — are almost always the best option in Clapham. The High Street and surrounding roads are significantly quieter before the morning rush, parking is easier to secure, and shared building lifts are less likely to be in use by other residents. At month end, when dozens of tenancies change over on the same day, an early start can be the difference between a smooth two-hour move and a frustrating four-hour one. We are available from 7AM every day of the week.

Absolutely — single-room moves from Clapham flat shares are one of our most common jobs. Our 1 man + van service at £50/hr is perfect for this. We handle all the carrying and loading, work around communal areas considerately, and can usually complete a single room move in 2 to 3 hours. If you have a lot of boxes or bulky items like a mattress or wardrobe, the 2 men + van option at £65/hr will get it done faster and more safely.

Yes — our Clapham service covers the full SW4 postcode area including Clapham North, Clapham Common, Clapham South and the Abbeville Village area between Clapham South station and Balham. All areas are covered at the same standard rates with no extra charges for different parts of Clapham.

London Moverz charges from £50/hr for 1 man + van and £65/hr for 2 men + van in Clapham SW4. Minimum booking is 2 hours. No hidden charges.

Yes — we cover Clapham Common, Clapham North, Clapham South and all SW4 postcodes, as well as all other London boroughs and long-distance UK moves.

Most local moves in Clapham are completed in 2–4 hours. We operate 7 days a week, 7AM–9PM, and can often accommodate same-day or next-day bookings.

Yes. London Moverz carries £2 million public liability cover and £25,000 goods in transit insurance. Every move in Clapham and across London is covered from the moment we start loading until the last item is placed at your new address. Certificate of Insurance documentation is available for buildings that require it — just tell us when you book.

You can book online, call us on 07897 383022, or WhatsApp us. We confirm availability within the hour.

We do both, with the same team. A man and van in Clapham is the right choice for a studio, a single room, a few items of furniture or a part-load — one man and a van at £50/hr, or two men at £65/hr, minimum two hours. Full house removals Clapham SW4 is the same service scaled up: two men, a full pack-and-load, furniture dismantling and reassembly, and protection for floors and doorways. Most converted Victorian flats and the family houses around Clapham Common need the two-man option once you are past a one-bedroom flat, simply because of stair carries and the size of the furniture. We do not subcontract either service — the people who quote your Clapham removal are the people who turn up. If you are not sure which you need, send a photo or a room list and we will tell you honestly, including if the smaller option is enough. Parking suspensions in Clapham go through Lambeth Council, and we will tell you exactly what to apply for.

About Our Service

Clapham Removals & Man and Van — Local Experts Since 2015

London Moverz has been serving Clapham and South London since 2015. Based in Chiswick W4, we make the journey to SW4 regularly — crossing the river via Wandsworth Bridge or Putney Bridge and arriving at most Clapham addresses within 25 to 35 minutes. Over nearly a decade, we have carried out hundreds of moves across Clapham: from the flat-share terraces near Clapham North station to the family homes around Clapham Common, from the Abbeville Village streets to the converted Victorian mansion blocks off Clapham High Street.

Clapham's Neighbourhoods — What Each Means for Your Move

Clapham SW4 is not one area but three distinct zones, each with its own moving challenges. Around Clapham North — the busiest and most transient part of the area — the housing stock is largely Victorian terraces divided into flat shares and HMOs. These properties typically have narrow hallways, communal stairwells and shared front access, making coordination on move day essential. We always ask about access and communal areas when you book so we can send the right size team and equipment.

The streets surrounding Clapham Common — The Chase, Lyford Road, Elms Road and the roads off Clapham Common North Side — are home to some of South London's grandest Victorian and Edwardian houses. These are typically large family moves involving substantial quantities of furniture, often including grand pianos, antique pieces and high-value items that require specialist wrapping. The wide roads around the Common give us good van access and parking, though the CPZ operates across most of these streets. Abbeville Village, tucked between Clapham South station and Balham, has a village feel with independent shops and charming terraced streets — the moves here tend to be calmer and the parking more straightforward than on the main High Street corridor.

Parking and Access in Clapham

Most of SW4 falls under Lambeth Council, which has controlled parking across more than two-thirds of the borough. Clapham High Street is heavily enforced with very limited stopping during controlled hours, so for a move fronting the High Street a suspension is usually worth having — though in practice most Clapham addresses are on side streets, where a legal loading point is normally close enough that you need nothing at all. We will tell you which you are.

If you do want one, Lambeth runs a three-tier notice system and the tier you land in changes the price significantly. Standard is 10+ working days' notice. Short Notice is 6–9 working days and adds £68.77. Express Short Notice is 2–5 working days and adds £156.31. Short Notice and Express are not guaranteed — both are subject to availability, so booking late is a gamble as well as an expense. The bay itself is £57.55 per space per day, but the part people miss is the flat £98.83 admin fee charged on every application, which on a one-day move is the larger half of the bill.

Here is the saving almost nobody uses. Lambeth sells a half-day suspension at £34.57, and a half day runs midnight to midday. If you take the 7am or 8am start we recommend anyway, the load is finished well inside that window — so the half day covers you for about £23 less than the full one. Two warnings from Lambeth's terms: any break in a suspension counts as a brand new request with a fresh admin fee, and extensions are treated as new applications at whatever notice period then applies, so book the full duration first time. The application is made by you as the occupier, since Lambeth issues it against the address and the vehicle registration — send us the reg and we will make sure the right van is on it. The end-of-month period in Clapham is particularly hectic, with dozens of tenancies changing over simultaneously and intense competition for parking and lift access in shared buildings. We always recommend early morning start times on busy move days to secure the best access.

ULEZ & Congestion Charge for Clapham Moves

Clapham SW4 sits well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Worth being precise about where that zone actually is, because a lot of removal sites get it wrong: it does cross the river, taking in Southwark and Elephant and Castle, and its southern edge runs along New Kent Road and Kennington Lane to Vauxhall Bridge Road. Clapham is comfortably south of all of it. Moves within Clapham and to nearby areas — Battersea, Wandsworth, Tooting, Balham, Streatham, Stockwell — will not incur any Congestion Charge. Clapham is, however, inside the expanded ULEZ zone (since August 2023). All London Moverz vans are ULEZ-compliant, so you will never see a surprise ULEZ charge on your invoice. If your move does enter the Congestion Charge zone — Westminster, the West End, the City, Bloomsbury, or Elephant and Castle — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026, its first rise since 2020. It now applies at weekends as well (07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays), and it is billed per calendar day, so a job running past midnight counts twice. Chelsea and Kensington, incidentally, are not in the zone — the Western Extension covering them was scrapped in 2011. We pass the charge on at cost with no markup, and the vast majority of Clapham moves involve none of it.

Moving at Month End in Clapham

Clapham has one of the highest rental turnovers in London, and the consequence is that an enormous share of its moves happen on the same handful of days. The last working day of the month, and the last Friday in particular, is the single hardest day of the year to move in SW4 — not because of traffic, but because every other tenancy on your street is changing over at the same time. The kerb outside your building is contested, the communal stairs have someone else's sofa on them, and if you are in a block with one lift there is a queue for it.

What that means practically. Book a month-end Clapham move at least a week ahead — our diary for the last two days of the month usually fills before the middle of it, and so does everyone else's. Take the earliest slot you can get: a 7am start on a month-end Friday routinely finishes before the day turns difficult, whereas an 11am start on the same day can add two hours to an identical job. If your tenancy ends on the 31st and the new one starts on the 1st, say so at booking rather than assuming it will work itself out — we can usually hold a load overnight, and short-term storage covers the longer gaps.

One more month-end specific: check-out inventories. Clapham landlords and agents are strict on communal-area damage, and a scuffed stairwell wall on the way out is a deposit deduction whether or not it was you. We carry corner protectors and door guards and use them on shared staircases as standard, not on request. If you want photographs of the communal areas before we start carrying, ask — we will take them.

Victorian Conversions, Communal Stairs and Access

Most Clapham flats are conversions rather than purpose-built, and that shapes almost every job here. A three-storey Victorian terrace split into three flats has one front door, one hallway and one staircase, typically with a tight turn at the half-landing and a bannister that was never designed to have a wardrobe passed over it. The measurement that matters is not your room — it is that turn. When you book, the useful things to tell us are which floor you are on, whether the staircase turns, and whether anything you own came into the flat flat-packed. If it was assembled in the room, it may well need to leave the room in pieces, and we would rather bring the tools than discover that on the day.

Sofas are the recurring problem. A three-seater that went up a Clapham staircase five years ago will not necessarily come down it — fabric compresses, feet get replaced, and the previous owners may have taken the door off its hinges without mentioning it. We can remove doors and, where the design allows, take feet and arms off. Where it genuinely will not fit, the honest answer is that it will not fit, and we would rather tell you that at the quote stage than at the half-landing. Send photographs of the staircase when you book and we will tell you before you are committed.

For the larger houses on the Common side — The Chase, Lyford Road, the roads off Clapham Common North Side — the constraint flips. Access is generally good and the roads are wide, but the volume is much higher and the contents more valuable. These are full-day jobs and often better suited to house removals than an hourly man-and-van booking. Grand and upright pianos come up regularly in these houses; we quote those separately on our piano movers page. If you would rather not pack a four-bedroom house yourself, our packing services cover labour and materials.

Two Clapham timing notes that are not about traffic. Events on Clapham Common — the SW4 Festival over the August bank holiday weekend is the big one — bring road closures and parking restrictions to the roads bordering the Common, so we check what is on before confirming a date for an address on Common North Side, South Side or Long Road. And if you are moving to or from a flat above one of the High Street bars or restaurants, deliveries to those businesses tie up the loading space through mid-morning; an early start is worth more there than anywhere else in SW4.

Why London Moverz for Clapham Removals?

Clapham is one of London's highest-turnover rental areas — which means it is also one of the most demanding for removal companies. We have handled the full spectrum of Clapham moves: chaotic last-minute flat-share splits, carefully planned family relocations from large Common-side houses, and everything in between. Since 2015, we have built a reputation across SW4 for arriving on time, working efficiently and treating every item with care. We are a small, owner-operated business — you speak to the same people who show up on the day, fully equipped with blankets, straps, trolleys and corner protectors.

We cover all SW4 postcodes and regularly serve surrounding areas including Battersea SW11, Wandsworth SW18, Tooting SW17, Putney SW15 and Earlsfield SW18.
