Removals Twickenham TW1 — We Know the Area Inside Out

London Moverz has been serving Twickenham and the TW postcode area since 2015. Based in Chiswick W4, we reach Twickenham TW1 via Kew Bridge and the A316 — typically a 20 to 25 minute journey. Over nearly a decade we have carried out hundreds of moves across Twickenham: from the grand Victorian and Edwardian houses of the conservation areas around Holly Road and Montpelier Row, to the riverside properties along the Thames, to the terraced streets of St Margarets and Whitton.

Knowing the England rugby fixture calendar, the Richmond Council suspension process and when to avoid the streets around the Stadium means Twickenham moves run to plan — not into a 82,000-crowd match day.

🏘️
Twickenham's Distinct Areas — What Each Means for Your Move

Twickenham TW1 is more varied than its compact size suggests. The riverside area — Church Street, Embankment, Montpelier Row and the lanes near All Hallows Church — is one of the most historic and attractive in outer South West London.

🏢
Twickenham Stadium — The Biggest Variable in Your Move Date

Twickenham Stadium — the home of English rugby and the largest dedicated rugby union venue in the world — dominates the local calendar and can make moving in TW1 and TW2 extremely difficult on match days.

Common Questions

FAQs — Man and Van Twickenham

We strongly recommend avoiding moving on England international match days at Twickenham Stadium, as road access across TW1 and TW2 is severely disrupted with road closures, parking restrictions and heavy pedestrian traffic for hours before and after the match. For club matches and smaller events, the impact is less severe. We always check the fixture list when you book and advise accordingly.

Yes, our Twickenham service covers all of TW1 and TW2 including St Margarets TW1, Strawberry Hill TW1, Whitton TW2 and the areas surrounding Twickenham town centre. We also serve the borders with Richmond TW9 and Hounslow TW3 at our standard rates.

Twickenham falls under Richmond Council, which requires a minimum of 10 working days' notice for resident parking bay suspensions. For the conservation area streets around Holly Road and Montpelier Row, and the restricted roads near the town centre and Stadium, a suspension is often needed. For the wider residential streets of St Margarets, Whitton and Strawberry Hill, parking is generally more accessible. We carry out a full parking assessment for every Twickenham booking. Richmond charges a £150.10 administration fee on every suspension plus a per-day bay charge, so it is worth checking whether your street needs one at all. The application is made by you as the occupier, since Richmond issues it against your address and vehicle registration. Book at least two weeks ahead for town centre and restricted-road properties.

The area around Twickenham station has parking restrictions but is generally more manageable than inner London stations. The residential streets surrounding the station are well-suited for parking a removal van in the morning. For properties directly on the main roads near the station, we assess parking requirements when you book. If a Richmond suspension is needed it takes 10 working days' minimum notice and carries a £150.10 admin fee plus a per-day bay charge, and the application is made by you as the occupier since Richmond issues it against your address and vehicle registration.

Yes, Twickenham has extensive conservation areas with beautiful Victorian and Edwardian housing. These properties often contain period furniture and fittings that require careful handling. Our team treats every item with respect and brings the appropriate equipment — blankets, straps and corner protectors — as standard on every move.

Yes, cross-area moves between Twickenham and nearby Richmond TW9, Kew TW9, Isleworth TW7 and Hounslow TW3 are among our most frequent jobs. The excellent road connections between these TW postcodes mean moves complete quickly and cost-effectively.

Twickenham TW1 is inside the expanded ULEZ zone (since August 2023), but our van is fully ULEZ-compliant — no ULEZ surcharge is passed on to you. Twickenham is well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Moves within Twickenham and to surrounding TW postcodes like Richmond, Kew, Isleworth and Hounslow will not incur any charge. If your move travels into the zone — Westminster, the West End, the City or Bloomsbury — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026, and it now runs at weekends too: 07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. Kensington and Chelsea are outside the zone despite feeling central. It is passed on at cost with no markup, and the vast majority of Twickenham moves involve no charge at all.

England international matches at Twickenham Stadium bring 82,000 spectators and create severe disruption across TW1 and TW2 — road closures, parking suspensions and heavy pedestrian management last for hours before and after kick-off. The Six Nations (February to March) and Autumn Internationals (November) are the main fixture windows to avoid. We check the England rugby calendar for every Twickenham booking and flag any potential conflicts proactively. If you have a choice of move date, avoiding international match days entirely is the simplest advice.

Yes — St Margarets TW1 is one of our most frequently covered areas in the Twickenham postcode. The wide, tree-lined Edwardian streets of St Margarets — particularly around Crown Road, St Margarets Road and the roads towards Richmond Bridge — are excellent for removal access with good parking and well-proportioned properties. These tend to be larger family moves and we always recommend the 2 men + van service for St Margarets houses. No extra charges for St Margarets versus central Twickenham.

Yes — Whitton TW2 is fully within our Twickenham service area and covered at the same standard rates. Whitton has a mix of 1930s semis and post-war housing with excellent road access, good parking and generally very manageable removal conditions. It is one of the more cost-effective parts of the TW postcode to move in — good-sized properties, straightforward access and no congestion charge.

London Moverz charges from £50/hr for 1 man + van and £65/hr for 2 men + van in Twickenham TW1. Minimum booking is 2 hours. No hidden charges.

Yes — we cover St Margarets, Strawberry Hill, Whitton and all TW1 postcodes, as well as all other London boroughs and long-distance UK moves.

Most local moves in Twickenham are completed in 2–4 hours. We operate 7 days a week, 7AM–9PM, and can often accommodate same-day or next-day bookings.

Yes. London Moverz carries £2 million public liability cover and £25,000 goods in transit insurance. Every move in Twickenham and across London is covered from the moment we start loading until the last item is placed at your new address. Certificate of Insurance documentation is available for buildings that require it — just tell us when you book.

You can book online, call us on 07897 383022, or WhatsApp us. We confirm availability within the hour.

We do both, with the same team. A man and van in Twickenham is the right choice for a studio, a single room, a few items of furniture or a part-load — one man and a van at £50/hr, or two men at £65/hr, minimum two hours. Full house removals Twickenham TW1 is the same service scaled up: two men, a full pack-and-load, furniture dismantling and reassembly, and protection for floors and doorways. Most riverside houses, 1930s semis and flats near the town centre need the two-man option once you are past a one-bedroom flat, simply because of stair carries and the size of the furniture. We do not subcontract either service — the people who quote your Twickenham removal are the people who turn up. If you are not sure which you need, send a photo or a room list and we will tell you honestly, including if the smaller option is enough. Parking suspensions in Twickenham go through Richmond Council, and we will tell you exactly what to apply for.

About Our Service

Twickenham Removals & Man and Van — Local Experts Since 2015

London Moverz has been serving Twickenham and the TW postcode area since 2015. Based in Chiswick W4, we reach Twickenham TW1 via Kew Bridge and the A316 — typically a 20 to 25 minute journey. Over nearly a decade we have carried out hundreds of moves across Twickenham: from the grand Victorian and Edwardian houses of the conservation areas around Holly Road and Montpelier Row, to the riverside properties along the Thames, to the terraced streets of St Margarets and Whitton. Twickenham is a genuinely lovely area to work in and one we know well.

The Georgian and early Victorian properties here are elegant but can have restricted access, with narrow paths and ancient lane access points that require careful vehicle planning. We always pre-assess riverside and conservation area addresses for access. Further inland, the streets around Holly Road, King Street and the town centre have a busy residential character — Victorian and Edwardian terraces popular with commuters, with the typical access challenges of period properties.

St Margarets TW1, bordering Richmond, is one of the most sought-after residential pockets in the TW1 postcode — beautiful Edwardian houses on wide, tree-lined roads with good access and parking. Moves here tend to be larger family relocations requiring the full 2 men + van service. Strawberry Hill TW1, to the west, is known for Strawberry Hill House and Gothic Revival architecture, and has a more suburban character with inter-war semis and good access throughout. Whitton TW2 — often overlooked but popular with families for its value and space — has 1930s semis and post-war housing with excellent road access and parking.

Twickenham Stadium — The Biggest Variable in Your Move Date

Twickenham Stadium — the home of English rugby and the largest dedicated rugby union venue in the world — dominates the local calendar and can make moving in TW1 and TW2 extremely difficult on match days. England international fixtures bring 82,000 spectators to the area, with road closures, parking suspensions and pedestrian management affecting a wide radius around the stadium for several hours before and after kick-off. The surrounding streets — Rugby Road, Whitton Road, the roads around Twickenham Green — become heavily managed by police and stewarding. We do not recommend scheduling moves in TW1 or TW2 on England international match days. For Premiership club finals and other large events, the impact is significant but more localised. We always check the England and Premiership fixture calendar when you book and will flag any potential conflicts proactively.

York House Gardens and the Riverside

York House Gardens, on the riverside between Twickenham Bridge and the town centre, is one of the area's finest public spaces. The properties adjacent to the gardens and along the riverside walk are among the most desirable in TW1 — Georgian river frontages, Victorian villas and converted period properties with the kind of historic character that demands careful handling during a move. We always use full furniture wrapping on moves from these addresses and send our most experienced team members.

ULEZ & Congestion Charge — Twickenham Moves

Twickenham TW1 and TW2 fall within the expanded Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which has covered all London boroughs since August 2023. Our van is fully ULEZ-compliant — there is no ULEZ surcharge passed on to you. Twickenham is well outside the London Congestion Charge zone. Moves within Twickenham and to surrounding TW postcodes — Richmond, Kew, Isleworth, Hounslow, Feltham — will not incur any congestion charge. If your move requires travel into the Congestion Charge zone — Westminster, the West End, the City, Bloomsbury or Elephant and Castle — the charge is £18 per day as of 2 January 2026, its first rise since 2020. It now applies at weekends as well (07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday, 12:00–18:00 Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays), and is billed per calendar day, so a job past midnight counts twice. Kensington, Chelsea and Notting Hill are not in the zone despite feeling central — the Western Extension covering them was scrapped in 2011. We pass it on at cost with no markup, and for almost all Twickenham moves no charges apply.

Parking Suspensions — Richmond Council

Twickenham falls under Richmond Council, which requires a minimum of 10 working days' notice before you can apply, and it is worth knowing the cost before you decide, because Richmond is the most expensive borough we work in for this. Every suspension carries a standard administration fee of £150.10 on top of a per-day bay charge that varies with the CPZ. The same single bay for one day costs about £39 in Ealing, £65 in Hounslow and £82 in Kensington and Chelsea.

Four points from Richmond's rules shape how we plan a TW1 or TW2 job. A bay is roughly five metres, so a long-wheelbase van generally needs two. A full set of adjacent bays can only be suspended for a whole day, not part of one — there is no half-day option here. A suspension is enforceable at any time, even outside the CPZ's controlled hours, which protects an early start. And disabled, doctor, ambulance and car club bays cannot be suspended at all. One Twickenham-specific warning: a suspension does not override event-day management around the Stadium. If your date turns out to clash with an international, the £150 you spent may buy you nothing — which is the strongest argument on this page for checking the fixture list before you apply for anything.

For the wider residential streets of St Margarets, Whitton and Strawberry Hill, parking is generally accessible without a formal suspension and we will say so rather than let you spend. Where one is genuinely worth having — the conservation streets around Holly Road and Montpelier Row, or the town centre — the application is made by you as the occupier rather than by us: Richmond issues it against the property address and the vehicle registration. Send us the reg and we will make sure the correct van is named on it. Where you do not need a specific bay reserved, a Richmond dispensation needs seven working days rather than ten and costs considerably less.

Eel Pie Island — The Only Address in Our Coverage a Van Cannot Reach

Eel Pie Island sits in the Thames off Twickenham Embankment, and it is the single most unusual removal in West London. The island is roughly nine acres with about fifty houses and a hundred and twenty or so residents, plus boatyards and artists' studios — and it is car-free. There is no road bridge and never has been. The only land access is a footbridge from Water Lane, about forty metres long, first built in 1957 and replaced since; the alternative is by boat. Vehicles are not permitted on the island at all.

What that means for a move is simple and non-negotiable: the van stops on the mainland and everything crosses the bridge on foot or by trolley. Trolleys are how residents move goods as a matter of routine, and it is how we work there too. The practical consequences are worth understanding before you book. The job is priced on carrying distance and trip count rather than volume, so a modest flat can take longer than a three-bedroom house on a normal street. Wide or heavy single items — a large sofa, a double wardrobe, a piano — need assessing individually against the bridge and the island's narrow central path, and occasionally the honest answer is that a piece has to be dismantled or come by boat. Weather matters more than usual, because a wet footbridge with a loaded trolley is a genuine hazard rather than an inconvenience.

On the mainland side, Richmond's Twickenham Riverside scheme provides dedicated servicing bays for island deliveries, with larger-vehicle access to the embankment controlled and limited to certain hours, typically early morning. That is why an Eel Pie Island move is an early-start job by default and why we want the date confirmed well ahead. If you are moving to or from the island, tell us at the first enquiry rather than at the quote stage — it changes the crew, the equipment and the time, and any firm that quotes it as an ordinary Twickenham job has not understood the address.

Strawberry Hill, Montpelier Row and the Listed Streets

Twickenham has an unusual concentration of genuinely historic housing for an outer London suburb, and it changes the mechanics of a move rather than just the tone. Montpelier Row is an early Georgian terrace; the streets around Strawberry Hill sit in the setting of Horace Walpole's Gothic villa; and the riverside around York House and Sion Row carries listed and conservation-area protection throughout. In these properties original door frames stay on their hinges, nothing rests against period plasterwork or an original stair rail, and floors and stone thresholds get covered before anything crosses them rather than after the first mark.

The practical consequence is that the measurement deciding your move is the narrowest fixed point on the route — usually a half-landing turn or a front-door reveal — and unlike a modern house it cannot be widened for the day. Send photographs of the staircase and the front door when you book. Establishing beforehand that a wardrobe will not make the turn is far better than discovering it with the clock running, because the alternatives — dismantling, or occasionally a window lift — need planning rather than improvising. We bring floor protection, corner guards and doorway padding to these addresses as standard rather than on request.

Away from the conservation streets, TW2 towards Whitton and the roads off Hampton Road are considerably more straightforward — wider frontages, frequent driveways, and no listing constraints. Those are the Twickenham addresses where a two-hour booking genuinely does cover a small job. Knowing which of the two situations your address is in before we quote is the whole difference between an estimate you can rely on and one you cannot.
