Man and Van London

Fast, Reliable Man & Van Hire in London

Our man and van service is the most popular thing we do — and it's easy to see why. Hiring a man with a van in London means one professional mover and a fully equipped transit van, from £50/hr. No overcomplicated booking process, no national call centre, no franchise driver who doesn't know the area. Just a reliable local team that shows up on time and gets the job done.

Man and van hire works best for flat moves, student relocations, single room moves, eBay and Facebook Marketplace collections, IKEA and furniture store pickups, and any job where you need a van and an extra pair of hands but not a full removal crew. For bigger jobs we offer full house removals and office relocations with larger teams. If you need urgent help, our same-day man and van service can often accommodate last-minute bookings in West London when our schedule allows.

We are based in Chiswick W4, which means we can reach most of West and South West London within 20 minutes — Hammersmith, Ealing, Acton, Fulham, Kensington, Shepherd's Bush, Brentford, Hounslow, Isleworth, Twickenham, Richmond and all surrounding postcodes. For Central and East London we typically allow 30 to 45 minutes travel time depending on traffic.

Every van carries moving blankets, ratchet straps, a sack truck and a furniture dolly as standard. We wrap and protect every item before it goes in the van — not just the things you ask us to wrap. Our goal is zero damage, every time.

When to Use a Man and Van

Right for These Jobs

🏠
Flat & Studio Moves

Moving from a studio or one-bedroom flat in Clapham, Ealing or Fulham? One man and van is usually enough. Add a second man for upper floors without a lift.

🎓
Student Moves

Moving in or out of student accommodation near Imperial, King's or UCL? We do student room moves across London regularly and know what fits in a transit van.

🛒
IKEA & Store Collections

We collect from IKEA Wembley and Tottenham, Dunelm, DFS and other furniture stores, and deliver to your London address. We also build flat-pack furniture if needed.

📦
Marketplace Collections

Bought a sofa on Facebook Marketplace or a wardrobe on eBay? We collect from anywhere in London and deliver to your home. We bring blankets and straps to protect the piece.

🏢
Office Clearances

Moving desks, chairs and equipment out of a small office or co-working space? A man and van is usually the most cost-effective solution for smaller commercial moves.

🔄
Storage Runs

Moving items in or out of a Safestore, Big Yellow or other London storage unit. We know several facilities well and can often offer advice on unit sizes and locations.

Questions

Man and Van FAQs

We charge £50/hr for 1 man + van and £65/hr for 2 men + van. The minimum booking is 2 hours. Additional time is charged in 30-minute increments — so if your job takes 2.5 hours, you pay for 2.5 hours, not 3. Our van is fully ULEZ-compliant — no ULEZ surcharge is passed on. The Congestion Charge is only added if the job requires the van to enter the central zone. It rose to £18 per day on 2 January 2026, and the hours changed too — it now runs 07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday and 12:00–18:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. It is passed on at cost with zero markup. Worth knowing the zone is smaller than most people assume: Kensington, Chelsea, Notting Hill and Fulham are all outside it, so a move between any of those carries no charge at all.

Yes — we accept same-day and last-minute bookings when our schedule allows. The best way to check availability quickly is to WhatsApp us directly on 07897 383022. We will reply within minutes and tell you honestly whether we can fit you in. Being based in Chiswick W4, we can typically reach most of West and South West London within 20 to 30 minutes of departure.

Every van carries moving blankets, ratchet straps, a sack truck and a furniture dolly. These are included in the hourly rate at no extra charge. If you need cardboard boxes, bubble wrap or packing tape, we recommend sourcing these in advance — we do not currently supply packing materials on the day, though we offer a packing service if booked in advance.

Our standard vans are large wheelbase transits — approximately 12 cubic metres of load space. This is enough for the contents of a one-bedroom flat or a studio plus additional items. For two-bedroom flats or larger volumes, we may use a Luton box van or recommend booking 2 men + van for a more efficient load. When you contact us, describe what you're moving and we'll recommend the right vehicle.

A man and van is charged by the hour and is ideal for smaller moves — studio flats, single rooms, student moves, eBay or Marketplace collections, and light commercial deliveries. A full removal service is typically quoted at a fixed price and includes a larger team, bigger vehicle, packing materials, furniture disassembly and a more structured approach suited to multi-bedroom houses and offices. If you are moving a one- or two-bedroom flat and can handle some of the packing yourself, a man and van is usually the more cost-effective option.

Yes. Our van is fully ULEZ-compliant. Since August 2023 the Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all London boroughs, so this matters for every London move — and we pass on no ULEZ surcharge to customers. The Congestion Charge is separate and only applies if your move crosses into the central zone. It is £18 a day as of 2 January 2026, and since that change it runs at weekends as well — 07:00–18:00 Monday to Friday and 12:00–18:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. The zone's western edge is Park Lane and Edgware Road, so Kensington, Chelsea, Notting Hill and Fulham sit outside it despite feeling central. We confirm any applicable charge at booking.

Yes. We operate across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London. We are based in Chiswick W4, which gives us fast access to West London, South West London and Central London. We also regularly work in North London, East London and South London. For longer-distance moves within the UK, we offer fixed-price quotes rather than hourly rates.

Yes. Our vans carry appliance trolleys specifically for heavy white goods. We disconnect, transport and reconnect washing machines, fridge-freezers, dishwashers and tumble dryers. If your appliance is integrated or built-in, please mention this when booking so we come prepared with the right tools. Disconnection of gas appliances must be done by a qualified Gas Safe engineer before we arrive.

Yes. We carry a full set of tools for standard furniture disassembly and reassembly — beds, wardrobes, desks, shelving units and flat-pack furniture. If you have IKEA PAX wardrobes, HEMNES beds or MALM drawers, we have taken hundreds of them apart and put them back together. Please let us know at booking which items need dismantling so we can factor in the time.

No. There is no stair charge, no floor surcharge and no fee if the lift is out. Stairs do take longer, though, so a fourth-floor flat with no lift will use more hours than the same load at street level. Tell us the floor and lift situation at both addresses when you book so the estimate reflects reality rather than optimism.

Someone needs to be present at both addresses to give access, flag fragile items and say where things go. It does not have to be you — a friend, relative or letting agent works, provided they can make decisions and hold keys. Give us their name and number in advance.

You pay for the time actually used, in 30-minute increments after the 2-hour minimum. There is no penalty rate and no rounding up to the next full hour. If we can see mid-job that we will run over, we tell you then rather than at the end. The two most common causes of overrun are packing that is not finished when we arrive and parking that turns out to be further from the door than expected.

London Moverz carries £2 million public liability cover and £25,000 goods in transit insurance, covering your belongings from the moment we start loading until the last item is placed at your new address. It covers loss and damage in transit. It does not cover breakage caused by inadequate self-packing, and cash, jewellery and important documents should travel with you rather than in the van. If a building requires a Certificate of Insurance, tell us at booking and we will send it in advance.

We do not carry hazardous goods — petrol, gas cylinders, solvents, fireworks or chemicals — and we do not move pets or livestock. Live plants are fine locally but risky on a long summer run. Everything else is standard: white goods, garden equipment, gym kit, safes, drained aquariums and pianos. If you are unsure about an item, send a photo on WhatsApp before booking.

For weekend moves, we recommend booking at least one week in advance as demand is high — particularly at month end when tenancy agreements change over. For weekday moves, 2-3 days notice is usually sufficient. Same-day bookings are accepted when availability allows.

Yes, we operate from 7AM to 9PM, 7 days a week. Early morning starts are popular with customers who want to beat London traffic. Evening slots are also available for office moves that need to happen outside business hours. Just let us know your preferred time when booking.

Most local moves in London are completed in 2–4 hours. We operate 7 days a week, 7AM–9PM, and can often accommodate same-day or next-day bookings.

Yes, London Moverz is fully insured. All moves across London are fully covered, giving you complete peace of mind.

You can book online, call us on 07897 383022, or WhatsApp us. We confirm availability within the hour.

The Cost Nobody Quotes You

Parking Permits for a London Move — What Each Borough Actually Charges

If you want a bay reserved outside your door, you need a suspension from the council. Two things about these are widely misreported: the notice period is usually 10 working days rather than the five you will see quoted around the web, and the real cost is higher than most sites suggest, because most boroughs charge a separate admin fee on top of the daily bay rate. Here is what one bay for one day actually costs across the boroughs we work in most, taken from the councils' own published fees.

One bay, one day — by borough

Borough
One bay, one day
Standard notice
Ealing (Acton, Hanwell, Greenford, Southall)
£39
3 working days
Hounslow (Chiswick, Brentford, Isleworth, Feltham)
£65
10 working days
Hammersmith & Fulham (W6, SW6)
£48 per bay
8 days (calendar)
Kensington & Chelsea (W8, SW3, SW10)
£82
10 working days
Wandsworth (Battersea, Putney, Tooting, Earlsfield)
£125.60
5 clear working days
Richmond (Kew, East Sheen, Twickenham)
£150.10 admin + bay
10 working days
Lambeth (Clapham, Brixton, Streatham)
£156.38
10+ working days

Four ways to pay less — or nothing at all

Check whether you need one. In Kensington and Chelsea, RBKC's published guidance states you do not have to suspend a bay to carry out a domestic or office removal — you may use any bay or a single yellow line provided loading is continuous and you cause no obstruction. Plenty of moves across London are completed perfectly legally without a permit, and on most outer-London residential streets a legal loading point is within a few metres of the door.

Ask for a yellow line waiver instead. If there are no marked bays outside your property to suspend — common on high streets and older lanes — a bay suspension is the wrong instrument. Hounslow charges £65 for the first day of a yellow line waiver; Richmond and Kensington & Chelsea both offer dispensations at lower fees and shorter notice than a full suspension.

Look for a half day. Lambeth sells a half-day suspension covering midnight to midday at £34.57. If you take the early start we recommend anyway, that covers the whole job for roughly £23 less than a full day.

Check which days are chargeable. Hammersmith & Fulham only charge for days on which the parking controls in that zone actually operate. Several of their zones run Monday to Friday only — so in those, a Saturday suspension carries no daily charge at all.

One thing we cannot do for you: councils issue suspensions against the property address and the vehicle registration, so the application has to come from you as the occupier. Send us the van registration when you book and we will make sure the correct vehicle is named on it. And do not put bins or cones out to hold a space — it is illegal in every London borough, however normal it looks on the street.

Fees checked August 2026 against each council's published charges. Councils revise these — check yours before you apply.
